Carpe Your F*cking Diem

Carpe Diem quote/inspirational quote/adult language quote/seize the day/befat.net Ralph Waldo Emerson said: “We are always getting ready to live but never living.”

Stop over-planning. Stop wasting time. Start living.

Be Smart. Be Safe. Keep Your Head On.

Be Smart. Be Safe. Keep Your Head On/inspirational quote/parenting quote/Stephanie DelTorchio/befat.net I‘ve uttered these three little sentences countless times. Mostly to teenagers. Or younger work colleagues on Fridays at five o’clock. Occasionally as fair warning to a wayward comrade. Often to myself.

It’s an amazingly simple request from a parent to child as they run out the door and into a car full of other equally clueless classmates. Of course they are smart. Ask them. Be safe I say to eye-rolling. Keep your head on is met with: Where else would I put it?

You really want to know?

But when you get the call at midnight or hear about the party the next day you wonder…did you hear me? I know you did. But did you listen?

Then I’m reminded that giving advice, even loving, caring, all-knowing, all-seeing parental advice, drifts off almost as soon as it’s said.

“Wise men don’t need it and fools don’t heed it,” goes a paraphrased quote from Benjamin Franklin.

Be Smart. Be Safe. Keep Your Head On.

It’s going to be printed on a t-shirt. Or tattooed to someone’s forehead. Do you hear me?

Slowing Down In A Fast-Paced World

Slowing down in a fast-paced world/Simon & Garfunkel/59th street bridge song/befat.net/Stephanie DelTorchio/9.15.2016

It’s an irony of our modern lives that while technology is continually invented to save us time, we use that time to do more and more things, and so our lives are more fast-paced and hectic than ever.

Life moves at such a crazy fast pace today that it seems to pass us by before we can really enjoy it. Weekends go by even faster. No?

You know it doesn’t have to be this way.

Wouldn’t it be great if we started a Reduce Our Hectic Lifestyle Revolution and slow down to enjoy life more? Sign me up. I’ll take a Ladies Medium t-shirt please.

A slower-paced life means we get to enjoy our mornings, instead of rushing off to work or school or wherever in a frenzy. It means taking time to enjoy what we’re doing — to appreciate the sunrise, the smell of coffee, to actually focus on whoever we’re talking to or spending time with — instead of checking our laptop or iPhone before wiping the sleepies from our eyes.

It means shifting to single-tasking rather than multi-tasking — I’m calling this attention deficit focusing. Or why you just might leave home with two different shoes on your feet.

Here’s a few starter suggestions for how to slow life down:

When It’s Time To Move On

Inspirational quote/quotes on change/befat.net/Stephanie DelTorchio

You usually know when it’s time for a change. Time to move on. To separate from situations that no longer fulfill your needs or elevate your growth.

Away from toxic and harmful people, even well-meaning people, who do not or cannot support your higher purpose.

You feel it at your core when it’s time to move towards new or better opportunities.

Whether you move to another room, down the street or across the divide, use your wings to take you where you must go. Because you can.

3 Steps To Take When the Sh*t Hits the Fan

Positive quotes/inspiring quotes/encouraging quotes/Stephanie DelTorchio, blogger/befat.net/positive blogs

Life is moving along nicely.

Your proverbial ducks are in a row — checkbook is balanced, everybody’s healthy, the home team looks promising going into the stretch…

Then WHAM!

The whole point of me starting this blog was the acknowledgement that life is a crap shoot. At any time, without notice or warning, the world as we know it can change in a instant. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been a good scout. Paid your taxes. Washed your hands to a slowly hummed rendition of “Happy Birthday.” It’s gonna find ya.

Message In A Bottle

Inspirational quote/Funny quote/Empowering quote/Humorous quote/befat.net/Stephanie DelTorchio Making wishes are fine. If you’re eight years old.

But you’re a grown-up.

So looking for someone else to grant your wish is rather childish.

Three wishes? Stop it.

You are smart. Resourceful. Curious.

You are able to learn new things. Take on challenges.

Decide on what you want to manifest in your life.

Go and make your own wishes come true.

BE F-G AWESOME TODAY!

Get Your Own F*g Pony

Funny quotes/funny quotes on raising children/inspirational quotes/befat.net/Stephanie DelTorchio/9.3.2016

Mom, can we go to the zoo?” says the five-year-old.

“Tomorrow,” says the mother.

“Mom, can I have a pony?”

“Later.”

“Dad, when can we get a red sports car like Tommy’s dad?”

“Someday.”

Parents fall back on three textbook answers to nagging questions:

“Later,” “Tomorrow,” and “Someday”.

Why?

9.2.2016 BeFAT Jar Update

Here’s an update on the BeF.A.T. jar that I started on January 1st — eight months of finding something awesome in each day. It ain’t always easy people…

So my computer decided to freeze up today while saving a rather larger document.

Four-hundred and six tries later… Okay, slight exaggeration…

Instead of heaving the thing across the room — so wanted to — I wandered in circles around the house.  Normal behavior for me to solve problems, and find missing reading glasses, and contemplate life’s great debates, like why all the fuss over paper versus plastic?

In truth, circling the furniture wastes a lot of time and begs more questions than answers.

When’s the last time this place got dusted? Is there a reason the light on the cable box has been blinking since 2004? And why is there a banana peel in the bathroom sink…Why? Who left it there?

Live A Life That Matters

Live A Life That Matters/positive inspirational quote by Marcus Aurelis/befat.net/Stephanie DelTorchio/9.1.2016

(NOTE: This was sent to me by a friend of this website. What a beautiful and inspirational message — perfectly aligns with the BeF.A.T. mantra. Passing along to you to enjoy and share.)

Live A Life That Matters

Ready or not, some day it will all come to an end.

There will be no more sunrises, no minutes, hours or days.

All the things you collected, whether treasured or forgotten, will pass to someone else.

Your wealth, fame and temporal power will shrivel to irrelevance.

It will not matter what you owned or what you were owed.

Your grudges, resentments, frustrations, and jealousies will finally disappear.

So, too, your hopes, ambitions, plans, and to-do lists will expire.
