When The Word Of The Day Is Challenge

My recurring dreams always involve challenges. Running for cover from a hidden “enemy”, falling off a cliff in complete silence or swimming in place against big ocean waves. I don’t remember any of those last night. But I woke up this morning with the word “challenge” in my head.

Is the word meant to be a warning or an inspiration? Maybe an opportunity’s around the corner or something’s about to shake up the status quo. Oh goody.

Every day brings new challenges. From finding a parking spot to caring for a loved one to navigating the tax code. It’s one test after another, I swear, from the Universe to keep us on our toes. Just when life is going along hunky-dory the Earth wiggles just enough to throw off the game.

Our time here requires us to stop and pivot, adjust and reset, redirect and reposition. Challenges can be good or the other one. Not good. Some challenges push us past a comfort point that later bring great rewards and advances. We like those challenges. Other challenges make us question the Universe’s deranged sense of humor, and timing. Then there are the challenges we bring on ourselves. Think about every diet and exercise plan ever.

But even the really yucky ones have the potential to teach us great things by stretching our boundaries. This is true especially when we’re thrown into the blender, a place we’d never go, given the choice. It’s tough to see daylight in the darkness. Even so, we take comfort knowing that it’s a matter of time before sunbeams appear.

If “challenge” is your word today, face it head on. Do the hard work if that’s what is required. Because the opposite is to shrivel up and quit, and your mama didn’t raise a quitter. If the challenge is of your own doing, keep taking the baby steps or long strides, whatever gets you moving in the right direction.

By the way, where’s the dream where I’m sipping a sweet glass of Cabernet Sauvignon with Clooney on Lake Como, discussing our movie idea? It wouldn’t be a challenge I’d forget.

BE F*CKING AWESOME TODAY!
