Thank Yourself Today

Thank Yourself/positive quote/self-love quote/motivational quote/inspirational quote/Stephanie DelTorchio/

Today will you please be gentle and cut yourself some slack?

Listen my darlings, we live in a crazy world. Every day we’re bombarded by external obstacles — big shit and little shit. Remember the difference?  Let the little ones go. Accept that the big ones will swallow you whole…unless… you understand that you cannot carry the world for long before it breaks you into pieces.

No amount of worry or self-beating is going to fix the problem. Do the best you can with the knowledge you have and then cast your care. Write down what’s eating at you. Then rip it up. Or burn it. Or charge yourself one dollar every time you speak or think about it. (I could have traveled around the world had I done this one.)

It’s taken years but I finally gave up on the “little”. Such a friggin’ waste of time. And now I recognize the BIG. And guess what? I can’t do squat about the BIG.

All we can do is our very best to handle the situations in small bites, with grace.

Some mountains we’re just not meant to move.

We don’t have all the answers. We will never have all the answers. Asking “Why?” over and over doesn’t take us to a higher place. It only prevents us from doing the work we need to get through THIS DAY.

Hopefully, in time, we come to understand that this life, as beautiful and glorious and magical as it is, comes with no instructions and some pretty shitty fine print.

Go back a few years and think about where you were. The tough times, strained relationships or super-bad situations. Sucked, right?

But you believe in good days ahead. Yes? Good.

Write this note and pin it to your chest. Draw blood if you must: “I am still here. I made it through the fog. I am a survivor.”

The people closest to me have been through their own storms and persevered to the other side. Was it easy? Not on your life. They leaned on their inner circle, just like I leaned on mine and you must lean on yours. In other words, we are on this planet to help pull each other through the mud.

And if you’re still wading in the middle, we’re going to stop and rest with you a while. You probably wouldn’t go back to where you came from — the nonsense, the crap, the hurt — because you know better now.

So please celebrate your personal victory for getting this far in life.

You might be bruised, scraped and messy, but you’re also alive and standing. Give yourself a well-deserved hug. Thank your “old” self for weathering the storm. If it weren’t for her, you wouldn’t be here today.

You’re awesome, darling.
